DeWitt Christian Church was initially started on April 14, 1968 as North Lansing Church of Christ on the campus of Great Lakes Bible College (which is now Great Lakes Christian College) on the north side of Lansing. This is currently the site of the Dodge Mansion.
The church then began searching for property on the north side of Lansing where they planned to build and establish the church on their own property. When no land was found, the church leaders expanded their search to DeWitt, where they found and purchased 20 acres on Herbison Avenue, adjacent to the present location of the DeWitt Junior/Senior High School complex. The church was established as the South DeWitt Church of Christ.
While waiting for the church to be built, the congregation met in the Old DeWitt High School (currently the Junior High School). The church met there for about a year, and in 1971 began to meet in what now is the fellowship hall, while the sanctuary was completed. South DeWitt Church of Christ was dedicated on October 1, 1972. In June of 2002, the church changed to its present name, DeWitt Christian Church.
